There was a point in Emily's life where she just didn't feel right anymore about anything that was going on. Hunter was...Hunter. There was no other word to describe it, ever. He was Hunter, he would always be Hunter and he would stay Hunter even without Emily in the picture. He was so good to her, so sweet and reliable and loyal. He said all the right things and all the right times and was a bloody right gentleman.
And that's why she really couldn't be with him.
She kind of figured that she'd get to this point sooner or later because that was the predictable pattern that she made with every boy and up until now, everything had been predictable. He respected her space and avoided making her wait and was always on time for everything. Everyone loved him, her friends were jealous that she had such a perfect boy, such a bloody sensible and endearing boy. She was comfortable with him, she was safe with him. She was bored with him.
It was so hard to do, mostly because she knew that he knew it was coming and it broke her heart to break his. Even up until the end he was the perfect gentleman, kissed her one last time and turned away. She had a good long cry over it, but in the end she knew that she was doing the right thing because stringing him along any further would have been worse on the both of them. It had been three years, which was pretty good for Emily's standards. She knew that she loved him in some way and that he loved her and she knew he did, but he loved her in the Hunter way and that...wasn't compatible with the Emily way.
The flyer was all over town the place in the wizarding world. She had no idea what made her do it, but she ended up showing up at the venue anyway. It was like she was being controlled by something else. She didn't buy a ticket or anything, partly because she was totally broke from not having a job yet, and partly because she didn't really know if she'd go through with it. She hadn't spoken to him all that much and when he graduated their communication ceased. She didn't really know how she'd react or how he'd react if they ended up seeing each other. She really wasn't sure that she wanted him to see her, but she knew that some part of her wanted to see him.
The doorman let her in, it was easy as anything. Sometimes being half Veela had its advantages. She was understated at best in her attire--jeans and a worn Beatles t-shirt and the crowd was large enough to probably satisfy his ego but small enough for her to feel comfortable in. He wasn't playing at Shay stadium yet, and something about that made her feel so at ease it was almost scary.
The shaded area in the back was her destination of choice and she watched him play his set, her eyes never leaving him.
